Male Breast Reduction – Post Surgery Instructions and Maintenance

Gynecomastia is another term for male breast reduction surgery. It is common knowledge that both male and female of the human species have mammary glands but only the females have fully functioning ones. Thus, it is understandable that the female chest size should be considerably different in size compared to that of the male. In a few cases, some males have similar characteristics to that of females when it comes to breasts. More pronounced chest sizes in males may present a possible flaw or problem on the part of the man.

Surgery

There is surgery to correct and reduce this anomaly. There are two popular methods to reduce the chest size of a male and these should be discussed accordingly by the patient with his doctor. Both procedures are dependent on the size of the individual’s breast since there are factors that affect each technique or method which may differ. The two methods basically use tumescent power liposuction to remove the excess fats that are usually the culprit of the chest size. The difference with the male breast reduction surgery that is used for larger sized chests is that an additional incision is made around the areola to remove any excess glandular tissues that may be present there.

Post Operative Course

After the operation, the man may have to stay overnight at the clinic or hospital, depending on the extent of the operation. A compression bandage should be worn by the patient to help support the wound as well as facilitate better healing. Medication to fight possible infections due to the open wound and to control inflammation and swelling should be prescribed by the attending surgeon or doctor. The application of a drain may be used by the doctor to help facilitate drainage of excess fluids. It is important to take all of the prescribed antibacterial medication to eliminate any possibility of an infection and complications.

Overall, a general feeling of exhaustion and some degree of pain in the area and around it is to be expected. One cannot sleep on his stomach until several weeks after the operation. The patient is also advised from lifting heavy objects or exerting much effort to push or pull things. Basically, upper body movement and exertion should be kept in check to be sure that both internal and external wound will heal well. Bruising and swelling may disappear as early as three weeks up to a little over a month.

The patient will also be taught how to change his wound dressing if he is deemed fit to be discharged already. A follow up visit to the doctor is mandatory so he (the doctor) will be able to monitor the healing process as well as the end result of the breast reduction procedure.

Do You Have the Skills Necessary to Become a Plastic Surgeon?

Many young people like the idea of being able to help people, and thus plan on becoming a surgeon. However, to some of these people, the preparation becomes somewhat of a shock, because of all the years of hard work that are required.

For example, what if a young adult wishes to become a plastic surgeon? The skills necessary to become a successful plastic surgeon are immense, and thus it is not only important for a person to be good at math and science, the person must have innate personality qualities.

First of all, in order to be an excellent plastic surgeon, a person is going to have to have a strong sense of detail. A surgeon cannot just piece parts of a person’s face together. That would result in more harm being done than any actual good. Unfortunately, there are a number of celebrities that serve as examples of surgery with an unfavorable outcome.

Something else that a prospective plastic surgeon should have is lots of patience. There are some kinds of surgery that take only perhaps an hour at most to complete. However, there are other procedures that take around five hours to complete. If this profession is truly the prospective person’s calling, then it is very necessary for the person to take his or her time to ensure the best results possible. Also, another important quality is the ability to listen. In order to give the patient what he or she wants in terms of a final look.

Reclaim Your Femininity – Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy

Mastectomy is the removal due to breast cancer. Sometimes only part of the breast is removed; in severe cases, both boobs must be removed. Occasionally, mastectomy is performed preventatively on women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer.

The effect of mastectomy is devastating. It often damages a woman’s concept of herself as a woman. It is disfiguring, and in some cases it leads to serious mental problems like depression or neurosis.

If, unfortunately, you have to have a mastectomy, keep in mind that many women go through the same thing as you. It is a drastic measure that will save your life in the long run. And best of all, there are now plastic surgery options available for you to get your breasts back.

How Reconstruction Can Help

The most common type of reconstruction is the implant. There are saline and silicone implants. Both have their advantages; a good idea is to talk to a plastic surgeon about it and discuss the pros and cons. They will have sample implants for you to feel during the consultation.

In general, silicone has a more natural feel than saline, but saline has always been more popular because of silicone’s health concerns. Several years ago, the FDA approved silicone for use, and most surgeons consider it perfectly safe, but it is a choice that must be made by each woman.

There is a wonderful new option for women who are leery of implants. It is the “flap.” There are a variety of flaps, such as the TRAM or the DIEP flap. They use tissue from other parts of the body to fill in the missing tissue.

These days, many women prefer this option because it is more natural. Instead of having implants, which are foreign objects placed in your body, they prefer to use their own body’s tissue. The results also feel more natural. The only disadvantage is that it requires a more complicated procedure, and not every woman is eligible for it.

Always Keep In Mind Risks And Complications

Like any surgical procedure, reconstruction after mastectomy carries some risks. Most of the complications they experience are due to improper healing. There will be scars, and they may not disappear completely over time. There is always a risk of infection, so you must make sure to follow doctor’s instructions.

For most women, the risks and potential for complications is well worth it. With your breasts back, you can feel like yourself again. It is most important to talk carefully with the doctor during your consultation, and make sure you are aware of all the risks the surgery poses.

With reconstruction, you can have your chest back. You no longer have to live with the effects of cancer every day. Talk to your doctor today to see if you are eligible. What reduction can do be aware of risks and complications have a consultation with a skilled plastic surgeon.

Question by fanny’s_girl: If I can still feel my nipples after a breast reduction, will I be able to breast feed?
Has anyone had experience with this?
Thank you. :)

Best answer:

Answer by Anne
I can only tell you what I know from a friend of mine who had a reduction…you’ll only know once you try. Its not so much a nipple sensitivity issue as it is the milk glands and ducts and how they were effected by the surgery. She’s currently pregnant and plans to try to breastfeed. She might not be able to, or might not be able to produce enough milk. The doctor told her she’ll just have to wait and see.

Question by ROMA: For women who have either had or are considering a breast reduction/lift, could you tell me what the procedure
consists of, how long recovery time is and if you are glad you had the surgery. My large sagging boobs are agonizing, but I am also terrified of surgery-so feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer by sandjoy542001
It was really cool. Out of all the surgeries I had, not much pain at all. The doctor did the “key-hole” technique where they cut down and around the nipple, remove the excess tissue, then lift everything up and close. It was an almost 6 hr surgery and he removed 9 lbs. I woke up with an IV, a PCA (pain control pump) and a catheter. I had 2 drains, which he took out before I was discharged. It sounds very technical, but it was not bad. I had to stay wrapped with the ace wrap for over 6 weeks. I went back to work on the 3rd week. I felt great. And, after suffering with large, saggy breasts my whole life ( the final size was a 54i before surgery) i was very pleased to be a perky 48B. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Best of luck to you.

Two Cures For Sagging Breasts

Aging takes its toll on every woman’s breasts. It’s a hard truth that all women must learn to cope with. As women age, their breasts will begin to sag and droop. Other than getting older, childbirth and extreme weight loss can also lead to sagging and drooping breasts.

The loss of youth is unsettling to everyone, most particularly women. In a world where beauty and health matter, every woman has the clock working against her. Fortunately, there are modern solutions to sagging and drooping breasts. This article will discuss two of those options.

Believe it or not, any woman with unshapely breasts can solve her problem in a matter of a few hours. Considering, of course, that her breasts aren’t enormous and also sagging, in which case she might need a breast reduction procedure. The quick solution is to purchase an underwire garment or support bra. These devices can lift and reshape your breasts to a suppler, youthful appearance. The results are instantaneous – put on the support bra and your breasts appear much more youthful! The breast “lift and support” industry is actually quite large, indicating this is a common problem that women from all over the world must resolve at one point or another in their life.

Despite the quick and easy (and often inexpensive) solution mentioned above, it has one serious drawback. Can you guess what that drawback is? It’s a pretty big one: the moment you move the undergarment support device, your breasts are back to their same old droopy selves! While these devices are great for an immediate solution, the fact that they don’t offer a permanent solution makes them less than an ideal choice for your needs.

There is only one permanent solution for drooping and sagging breasts, and it’s called a breast lift surgery. This procedure has advanced considerably over the years. Many women undergo this procedure every year. In fact, if you have some girl friends who are in their late 30′s and beyond, there’s a strong chance one of them has already had the procedure!

A breast lift is a permanent solution for aging breasts. It will permanently lift them to a higher position on the chest, and will add volume and shape to them. If you desire larger breasts as well as shapelier breasts, you might want to consider a breast augmentation and breast lift surgery combo.

Your procedure will be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon who is a certified specialist when it comes to breast lifts. You should choose a surgeon who has extensive experience in the procedure. He or she should have an entire book filled with before-and-after photographs for you to review before you make your final decision on which surgeon will do the job.

The procedure itself involves excising fat and excess skin tissue from each breast. Your surgeon may also relocate the areola, depending on your situation. When it’s all over, you will have a new set of plump, full breasts that sit higher on your chest. They will mimic the look and feel of youthful breasts.

If you’re considering a breast lift, you will need to speak with a licensed, board-certified plastic surgeon, preferably one that is local to your area. If you find it difficult to find a quality plastic surgeon who can do the job, ask your friends and family for recommendations. Or, you could even ask your family physician – he or she may very well know someone who is an exceptional surgeon.

The only way to get the most current information regarding breast lift surgeries is to speak to a licensed physician. Don’t rely solely on information from the internet because it could be outdated.

Question by laura_lsu18: Breast Reduction?
Hi. I have a question to all the women who had breast reductions. I did alot of reading on the net and alot of things worry me. First off, I am 100% sure I need a reduction. I wear a 40F. My main concern is what I read about breasts being so large that the surgeon has to remove your areola which causes loss of feeling and inability to breast feed. How common is this? I know every woman is different but I would really appreciate hearing about it from women who actually went through it and how well did it go. Thank ya’ll!

Best answer:

Answer by Kimmer K
A talented surgeon can reattach the aerola with minimal loss of sensation, but it’s always a concern.

After losing 198 lb in 1 year (plus 3 pregnancies) my stretch marks left considerable sagging in my tummy & bosom and my HMO paid for reconstructive surgery.

The surgeon used a new breast reduction/lift technique that didn’t involve the usual t-scar (lollipop). Ask your doctors about it.

BTW, losing weight slowly doesn’t help saggy skin if you have stretch marks. Stretch marks are emergency skin and never go away.

What do you think? Answer below!

The Growing Trend of Men and Cosmetic Surgery

Advancements in cosmetic plastic surgery have entered mainstream society, appealing to people from all walks of life, including men. Cosmetic surgery for men is a growing trend, with numbers continually on the rise. While women still take the lead, accessible cosmetic surgery cost, along with the convenience of non-invasive and minimally invasive options available, have caused men to warm up to the idea of cosmetic plastic surgery.

Advancement and accessibility are not the only reasons more men choose cosmetic surgery. The society in which we live places emphasis on appearance in dating situations and the workplace. An attractive appearance exudes confidence. Many men, particularly the baby boomer generation, may find the need to stay competitive in the workplace with a refreshed appearance. Divorced men find cosmetic surgery an ideal option for a confidence boost for returning to the dating arena.

Men are also requesting many of the same cosmetic surgical procedures as women. The top five most requested procedures for men are rhinoplasty, hair transplantation, liposuction, eyelid surgery and breast reduction. Some procedures can be combined, reducing recovery time.

Cosmetic Surgery for Men and Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reshapes the cartilage in the nose. Men, like women, choose this procedure to refine the nose contours. Reshaping the nose can create significant improvements to overall appearance by complementing other facial features. Recovery time depends on the complexity of the procedure.

Liposuction as a Growing Trend for Men

Liposuction is a preferred body-sculpting tool among both men and women. This is an ideal cosmetic procedure for removing fat cells from troublesome areas of the body. Men usually elect to have liposuction performed on the waistline and the chin.

Cosmetic Surgery Trends and Hair Transplantation

Hair transplantation is becoming a popular method for men experiencing pattern baldness. The surgeon removes healthy hair follicles from different parts of the body and transplants them to bald areas on the scalp. Hair transplantation usually requires several sessions.

Hair transplantation is a delicate cosmetic plastic surgery and involves precise execution on behalf of the surgeon. A highly experienced cosmetic surgeon is necessary to maximize results. Surgeons must be able to identify the natural hair whorl pattern on your scalp in order to correspond with your natural hair pattern.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery and Men

Cosmetic eyelid surgery energizes appearance and can be performed on the upper or lower eyelid. Upper eyelid surgery is performed on drooping eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery reduces puffiness.

The Growing Trend of Men and Breast Reduction Surgery

Cosmetic breast reduction surgery is offered to men desiring a more masculine chest. Breast reduction involves a procedure to remove excess fat and tissue. The outcome is a more youthful male chest.

Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures and Men

Nonsurgical cosmetic procedures are particularly attractive to men. Procedures cost less than more invasive cosmetic surgery and can be carried out in an outpatient facility. At the top of the list are Botox injections, as a temporary answer for a facelift. In fact, many fillers can be applied to different areas of the face to restore a vibrant look. Among other popular noninvasive cosmetic procedures are laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

Breast Augmentation – Risks and Rewards

If you want younger, fuller breasts, the best way is acquire them is with surgery. No matter where you live if you are considering surgery you should weight the risks against the rewards before you choose a plastic surgeon, so you can make an educated decision as to whether the surgery will be successful for you. Success in this case means that you will be happy with the final results of the surgery.

The advantages of having breast augmentation is that younger, fuller breasts do not sag. Along with this comes greater self-confidence and pride in your body and figure. The sad part is most women compare their breasts to television actresses who have supersized breasts and wish to also have the same look and appeal. The real truth is that breasts that match your frame are perfect and give you the appearance of being naturally endowed, whereas breasts that are too large for your frame are not as appealing as you might assume. If you are tempted to invest in the extra large size, it may be worth it to talk to a woman who has undergone a breast reduction surgery as she can accurately tell you about the down-side of oversized breasts, including back and shoulder pain and trouble buying clothes and bras that fit properly.

You can find a wide array of plastic surgeons to perform a breast augmentation in your city, but you should look at the disadvantages and risks that may be involved with this type of procedure. One of the major disadvantages is that you will most likely face additional surgeries in the future. The primary reason you may need to undergo more surgery is because over time, implants can wear out and start to leak. This is commonly called implant rupture, but this kind of rupture is not like a balloon popping, a ruptured implant can have several months of slow leakage before you notice any problem. If you have a rupture, you will need to have surgery for the removal of the implant shell and to insert replacement if you choose.

A rupture happens to be the worst scenario and is rare; but this is not the only risk involved with breast augmentation. You should speak with your surgeon to learn other disadvantages and risks that can occur. Another painful possibility is a condition called capsular contracture which is hardening of the breast tissue in the area that touches the implant. Pain and sensitivity has also been on the list of complaints with patients who have received breast augmentation. Another possibility is that your new breasts may not look like you imagined or that you harbored unrealistic expectations which will cause you to be unhappy with the results of the procedure.

Surgeons that perform breast augmentations will be able to provide you with the information you need to make a decision, including computerized projections of your looks after the surgery, as well as photos of other patients before and after surgery. While considering these risks, realize that while the incidence of these problems is real, there are still many. many women who are very happy with their new, improved shape!

Beginners Guide to Breast Reduction Surgery

Why do women choose breast reduction surgery?

Many women with heavier, larger breast can experience great discomfort.

Back muscles may ache due to supporting the heavier breasts. There may be breast pain from sports or even everyday activities. Bra straps may feel pinching on the shoulders. Clothing can feel awkward or as though the breasts are too exposed in skimpier styles. Pretty underwear may be difficult to find in anything like a comfortable size. Finally, sports and beachwear may not offer the support needed, or again leave the wearer feeling too exposed.

The Procedure

Each surgery will be slightly different, but the procedure commonly has some general features. First the patient will meet with the surgeon for advice on the surgery itself, and the post-operative recovery period, including the purchase of a properly supportive bra.

Always under general anaesthetic, the procedure generally requires three hours surgical time. Commonly, am anchor-shaped incision is made around the nipple and then down the breast to the crease underneath.

The surgeon then removes excess adipose (fatty) tissue plus repositions the nipple and areola (the dark circle around it). Repositioning is essential to create a natural looking new breast. Incisions are closed with sutures which stay in for around 7 to 14 days.

The Recovery

The hospital stay is generally 1 or 2 days after surgery and pain relief and antibiotic medication is routinely offered as required. Drainage tubes are very important – they are inserted during the operation and remain in place until hospital discharge. This is to ensure any blood leakage is collected.

The surgeon should give precise advice on all aspects of the recovery period. Patients generally wear the chosen support bra for a prescribed time and must not wear underwired bras until instructed this is acceptable. Time off work varies often between 2 and 4 weeks according to occupation, plus individual healing rates. Strenuous exercise must be avoided for some weeks. Attending ongoing appointments with the surgical team to monitor wound healing progress is extremely important and should never be missed.

Expert Advice

Any type of surgery carries a degree of risk. Breast surgeries are some of the most widely practiced and well documented cosmetic procedures; however expert advice must always be sought. Many professional cosmetic surgery bodies advocate choosing a surgeon and their team by qualification, specialised training and experience in the procedure and not simply by the ‘best price’. Cosmetic surgery is not general surgery, in the sense that extremely specialised further training is required for good surgical results.

Plastic Surgery For Men is an Increasingly Popular Midlife Decision

Growing older is never easy. For many men the disparity between who they feel like inside and how they actually look is shocking. And while they may feel like youngsters, the mirror tells a different story. In the last 20 years American society has pushed exercise and proper diet as the key to eternal youth.

But even the most vigorous of exercisers can’t fight saggy skin, fat in unpleasant sections of their midsections and wrinkles that they seem to dictate one’s age to anyone else who pays a second glance. And while eating right and regular exercise is important to everyone at any stage of life, it doesn’t reverse the natural effects of aging.

But that doesn’t mean one shouldn’t be able to look how they feel inside. Plastic surgery for men not only gives one the body they’ve fought so hard for, but it gives it to them with the convenience Americans have come to expect from modern medical advances.

Not only is plastic surgery for men an increasingly common midlife choice, but it’s a surprisingly affordable choice too. With the payment plans now offered by the majority of surgeons nationwide, just about anyone can get the procedure they need and desire.

These operations not only give back one’s youthful appearance, they provide things that one might not have ever had, like a shapelier nose, six-pack abs, or evenly shaped pectorals. Statistics have shown a more than 30 percent increase in some of the most commonly done procedures.

These include rhinoplasty, liposuction, hair transplantation, breast reduction, buttock enhancements and eyelid surgery. The cost of such surgeries range from around ,000 to ,000. The healing times vary but rarely impede one’s life for more than only minimal recovery times.

For those scared of going under the knife and are maybe fearful of plastic surgery for men, there are several non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Botox injections, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and collagen injections all provide amazing results without going under.

For most of the aforementioned measures, they usually only involve a couple of 45 minute visits over a month or two. But there really shouldn’t be any reason to be scared of surgery with the comfort of today’s medical visits.

For some seeking toned mid sections and tight skin, plastic surgery for men is the only viable option. Procedures such as liposuction target the layer of fat that is resistant to exercise. It means even with all the crunches, salads and mid afternoon jogs, the stomach still won’t look perfect.

In these instances years of intensive exercise have left them vaguely disappointed. With liposuction, it isn’t necessarily a method to cheat on your health, but instead a way to augment an already healthy lifestyle.

So maybe male plastic surgery is right for you. Not only is it popular, but it can be a real motivator to feeling good about yourself again. And you owe it to yourself to feel your best. Start reviewing your options and maybe just change your entire life, today.
