Dr. Bonelli attended medical school at the prestigious Southwestern Medical School, which boasts the most Nobel Laureates of any medical school, and continued his postgraduate education at the University of South Florida. During residency, Dr. Bonelli studied with experts in the fields of cosmetic medicine and surgery, completing an Area of Concentration in Aesthetic Medicine.
Dr. Bonelli has dedicated himself to safety in cosmetic surgery throughout his career. Beginning as assistant medical director of a medical spa, he personally evaluated patients and performed laser procedures and injectables and additionally directly supervised mid-level providers. Following this experience, Dr. Bonelli opened a cosmetic surgery center in Palm Harbor, which he relocated to the Mease Countryside Hospital Medical Arts building a few years later. As director of his own cosmetic surgery center for over a decade, he has achieved excellence in safety and has been praised during certification for diligent record keeping and faithfulness to standards of care in surgery. Of note, he was one of the first surgeons to bring tumescent liposuction totally by local anesthesia to the Tampa Bay area.
A testament to the levels of safety and patient satisfaction for which Dr. Bonelli is known; his practice draws a great majority of new patients from referrals, both from colleagues and other patients. Certainly, one important factor contributing to this success is Dr. Bonelli’s choice to focus on minimally invasive surgeries which have safety and patient satisfaction profiles that have been reviewed extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals. The most prominently featured of these is tumescent liposuction totally by local anesthesia, which Dr. Bonelli also employs in his minimally invasive fat transfer procedures.
