Need Help for Liposuction of Legs?
liposuction and safety
Jan 18, 2013
First and foremost when we are considering surgery of any kind, we want to make sure it is as safe as possible. A thorough evaluation by the MD taking care of you for your seizure disorder would be necessary to determine if anesthesia and the procedure will place you at a higher risk for having a seizure either during surgery or after. Once that has been addressed, then a board certified plastic surgeon with expertise in cosmetic surgery of the legs (ASAPS member) should evaluate you and...
Would a Plastic Surgeon Do a Lower Body Lift if the Patient Hasn't Met the Goal Weight?
how much weight to lose before lower body lift?
Jan 12, 2013
There are a few things to consider when searching for your goal weight:

Have a goal and work towards it. If it is unrealistic you may have to change it. It does you no good to achieve a goal weight that you cannot keep

Once there, allow your weight to stabilize ( recognizing that some fluctuations will occur) for 3 months.

We know that when your BMI is over 30 you start increasing your risk associated with the procedure ( risk is higher due to the nature of the procedure...

I Need Tummy Tuck Revision?
revision after a tummy tuck
Dec 2, 2012
Unfortunately complications do happen despite our best efforts. I am sure your physician has a great plan in mind to help you achieve your goals. On occasion, when revisions are minor, we can do revisions in the office. It sounds like you may need more extensive work and require a trip to the operating room.
Should I Have a Fluer Di Lis?
vertical excision tummy tuck vs traditional tummy tuck
Dec 2, 2012
Losing 45 lbs is tough! Congrats. Prior to considering any surgical intervention it is important that you are weight stable for 3 months. When we evaluate the abdomen we look at skin laxity, fat, weakness of the abdominal wall and any fat on the inside around your intestines. We can help the first three. I reserve a "fluer di lis" for someone with both vertical and horizontal excess skin. While it is hard to tell on photographs alone, it appears that you could get a good result with a...
Abdominal Liposuction and Gynecomastia?
liposuction, fluid collections after surgery, seroma
Sep 20, 2012
At 5 weeks following liposuction you should still have some swelling but not the degree that you are experiencing. Based on your picture, I would concerned that you may have a fluid collection under the skin termed a seroma. As the body heals following the procedure sometimes it can result in a fluid collection. When treated in a timely fashion, this often can be improved with a few visits to the office for simple drainage. I would recommend you see your surgeon as soon as possible to...
Its Been 4 Months Now Since my Vaser Lipo and my Abdominal Still Looks Huge?
swelling after lipo, how long does it last
Aug 8, 2012
It is normal to experience swelling after liposuction regardless of the tool used. At 4 months, if this was your initial procedure, the swelling should be resolved. Important questions to ask include what is your weight and how does it compare to your preoperative weight? Remember that 50% of your result is surgery and 50% of your result is on you to eat right and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Seroma would be very unusual with liposuction but always a consideration early on...
Can Hyperpigentation Caused by Diode Laser Be Treated with IPL?
hyperpigmentation, laser treatment, PIH
Aug 8, 2012
Hyperpigmentation follow laser treatment of blood vessels can be due to two causes. If the laser disrupts the vessel in such a way that blood leaks out into the tissues this may deposit pigment into the tissues. This is unusual with laser because it heats the vessels shut, normally without disrupting them. The likely cause is the "heat injury" to the tissues from the laser itself which can happen with almost any treatment that we do. In some cases, if the pigment is superficial we can use...
It Has Not Yet Been 48 Hrs Since I Had my Juvederm Filler Done. Is It Normal to Still See Swelling?
swelling after juvederm, filler swelling
Aug 1, 2012
All fillers can cause some swelling. Fortunately, this is often resolved in a few days. On occasion swelling can last 7-14 days. Juvederm is "hydrophilic" which means it likes water. In certain areas/individuals this can cause prolonged swelling. Ice helps for the first 24-48 hours. If you are still swollen at the end of the first week, see your doctor
Is This Tattoo a Good Candidate for Excision Removal?
laser tattoo removal, excision tattoo removal, laser
Aug 1, 2012
The tattoo you are describing on your inner arm does have bright colors which are challenging to remove with a laser. You could in 2-3 procedures ( likely office based) excise the tattoo but the tradeoff would be a scar in that location, which at times can be red and wide.
Tummy Tuck and Muscle Repair 6 Months Ago, Lost 3-5lbs, and Have Loose Skin?
Loose skin after tummy tuck
Jun 23, 2012
Sometimes we can see some loose skin with weight loss even after TT. I would stabilize your weight and talk with your doctor I sure they want you to be happy! Remember to see a board certified plastic surgeon who is an ASAPS member
I Had Perlane Injections and Re-injections Due to Visible Lumps. Did Not Resolve. Advice?
Lumpy after filler
Jun 23, 2012
The great thing about hyaluronic acid fillers such as this is we can make things better when they are not perfect. Massage works very well and we can often do it for a month or so. If that fails we can remove the product with a small needle to express it out or dissolve it with something called hyaluronidase . Putting more product in is not the answer!
Nodules Following Lymphatic Massage 2 Months Post-Op- Normal?
nodules following liposuction
Sep 18, 2011
It is hard to know exactly why you have developed nodules on both sides of your waist following TT and lipo. These may represent persistent swelling, resolving hematoma, or possibly even fat necrosis. Regardless, all of these should get better with time. I would recommend you see your treating MD. They recommend further massages or even ultrasound treatments to improve this area.
Tumescent Liposuction Vs. Liposuction
what is the difference between tumescent lipo and lipo?
Sep 18, 2011
All liposuction techniques utilize a wetting solution that helps magnify the treated area, decrease blood loss, and in some cases provide a local anesthetic. "tumescent" is used by many to describe the above. In the scientific literature, "tumescent liposuction" is a term used by doctors who perform lipo in their offices and inject roughly 3 times as much fluid in as they remove. Most plastic surgeons use a "superwet" technique which infiltrates approximately...
Wisdom Teeth and Lipo Surgery In Same Month. Is There Risk Of Being Under General Anesthesia Back To
two surgeries in a month, is that safe?
Aug 29, 2011
In general, we try not to perform a major surgery within one month following another significant surgery. There is some suggestion that it may predispose you to developing blood clots. Obviously your safety is the top priority so don't risk it by performing elective surgery under general anesthesia in the same month.
How Many Minutes Should I Be Massaging The Lumpy Areas Post Liposuction?
massage following lipo
Aug 29, 2011
Even massages 5-10 mins twice a day will help with any firm areas and facilitate decreasing the swelling in the area. We use Lymphatic massages in our practice. The patient's undergo one preop and then 1-2 x week for 2 or 3 weeks. I definitely think this helps resolve swelling and feels good for our patients. It is important to see someone who is familiar with post op patients.
