Options for breast augmentation?
implant extrusion following breast augmentation
Jun 22, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question and I'm sorry to hear about your complications following surgery.  I'm unclear as to reason for your implant extrusion.  I generally place a new implant if the prior implant has been infected, exposed, or compromised in any way.  If your extrusion was secondary to an infection, then you would be able to have another augmentation in several months.  Another option is fat grafting, although this often requires 2-3 procedures and does not provide the same sha...
I had surgery on my armpit (axillary breast tissue removal). Concerned about lump under armpit?
firmness of axilla following axillary breast tissue excision
Jun 19, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  Yes, this lump could be scar tissue, but it is best to have it evaluated by the same surgeon who did the initial surgery.  It is not unusual to require drainage of this site following excision of axillary breast tissue; your body sees an empty space and responds by filling it with what we refer to as seromatous fluid.  If there is scar tissue present, it may soften by itself in several weeks, but if not, it can be removed.Best wishes,Dr. Naidu

breastfeeding after breast augmentation
Jun 16, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  You have a good chance of being able to breastfeed after undergoing breast augmentation surgery regardless of the incision location.  There have been several studies published on this topic.  A recent study on this topic published in the December 2016 issue of the journal "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" found that 93% of women studies who had undergone breast augmentation were able to breastfeed, in comparison to 99% of those who had not had impl...
Can ADM be used in prevention of rippling?
rippling camouflage during breast augmentation surgery
Jun 15, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  If you have smooth round implants placed under the muscle, your chance of visible rippling should not be high even if you are very thin.  However, ADM can be added if necessary to camouflage the implant.  This is a very expensive addition to your procedure, and in the US can add almost $2000 to the cost of surgery.  Another great option is the use of your own fat, which is simple and much cheaper.  I suggest discussing your concerns with your surgeon at your...
Am I a good candidate for natural breast augmentation/fat grafting?
fat grafting for breast augmentation
Jun 14, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  You have a nice shape to your breasts, and therefore if you have enough donor fat you should be a good candidate for breast augmentation with fat.  However, you should expect to achieve a cup size or less, and you will likely need at least two procedures, spaced 6-12 months apart.  I suggest seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who has experience with fat transfer to the breast for evaluation and a discussion of your options.Best wi...
6 weeks post implants, is it best practice to sleep in a bra to prevent further sagging?
bra use after breast augmentaiton and lift
Jun 12, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  At this point you do not need to sleep in a bra, although you certainly can do so if you prefer it.  There is no data to suggest that long-term use of a bra after surgery maintains your shape.  The quality of your breast tissue and skin will play a greater role in the longevity of your results.  Best wishes,Dr. Naidu

breast augmentation after breastfeeding
Jun 9, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  You should wait until at least 3 months until after you have completely finished lactating prior to being evaluated for a breast augmentation.  You should also be able to breastfeed following breast augmentation; a recent study showed that 93% of women who had received breast implants were subsequently able to breastfeed. Best wishes,Dr. Naidu
Do doctors now recommend switching textured silicone implants with smooth silicone, due to rece
textured implants and ALCL
Jun 8, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  The FDA, in conjunction with the national plastic surgery societies, is investigating a possible link between textured silicone implant and ALCL, a rare form of lymphoma.  The risk at this time is estimated in 1 in 30,000 textured implants.  We are not currently recommending routine exchange of textured implants if you are not having any issues with them.  If you experience significant swelling of one breast, that would be an indication to see your pla...

bloody discharge from nipple following breast augmentation
Jun 7, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  It is unlikely that the bleeding from your nipple is related to your implants.  I would suggest seeing a general surgeon or at least your primary care physician as soon as possible to begin working up the source of your bleeding.Best wishes,Dr. Naidu
Ramadan and breast augmentation, does fasting slow down the healing process?
Fasting and healing
Jun 6, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  As long as you are getting adequate nutrition during the hours when you are able to eat and drink, your surgical sites should heal well.  You may notice that you are more fatigued than normal, as both fasting and recovering from general anesthesia put demands on your body and require that you have adequate time to rest.  Don't push yourself too much during this period and you should do well.Best wishes,Dr. Naidu
Lift or no lift? Debating a breast augmentation with a moderate high profile.
breast augmentation with or without lift
Jun 5, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  Based on your photos, I would recommend a breast lift in addition to augmentation.  Breast augmentation alone will fill out your tissues, but based on the position of your nipple-areolar complex, you will need a breast lift to provide a more youthful appearance.  This can be done with a vertical incision, which extends around the nipple-areolar complex and down the breast.  I suggest seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who can examine you...
Breast lift with or without implants?
breast lift versus breast lift with implants
Jun 1, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  You look like an excellent candidate for a breast lift.  You do not need to have implants placed if you are happy with your current size.  You should also be able to have a lift with a vertical incision, rather than a full T-incision.  I suggest visiting a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who can evaluate you and provide you with your options.Best wishes,Dr. Naidu

symptoms in breast possibly related to implant rupture
May 31, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  You may indeed have a ruptured implant, or your symptoms may have another source.  I suggest starting with a visit to your plastic surgeon, or if he or she is not available, to another board-certified plastic surgeon in your area.  He or she will begin with an examination, likely followed by imaging such as an ultrasound, mammogram, or MRI to asses both your breast tissue and the implant.  Once this information has been obtained, you'll be able to work wit...
Right implants to achieve wish boobs?
implant sizing
May 30, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  It's very difficult to suggest a size which will achieve your goals without the benefit of an examination.  Sizing is determined by measuring not only the base width of your breasts, but also the amount of stretch in your breast tissue.  High profile implants tend to give a somewhat less natural look, but in some cases, this is in fact the look that the patient is hoping to achieve.  I suggest seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon who can examine you and...
Can a ultrasound break up scar tissue that's developed?? I'm on my 4th Breast Aug.
ultrasound for capsular contracture of the breast
May 26, 2017
Hi, thank you for your question.  Ultrasound can be helpful for the treatment of scar tissue, but it generally must be used in conjunction with massage and stretch of the capsule.  Ultrasound alone will not break or soften the capsule around a breast implant.  This is different than the focused technology used for breaking kidney stones.  There is a current device which some plastic surgeons use in conjunction with massage and wrapping which may help with reduction of capsular con...
