Female to male question. When you have top surgery can you keep your areolas?
Yes, you can keep your areolas!
Oct 1, 2020
“Top surgery” or bilateral mastectomy with male chest wall recontouring and nipple and areolar reconstruction, is a procedure designed to remove breast tissue and reshape the nipple and areola in order to create a more masculine chest appearance. Alongside hormone therapy, top surgery is typically one of the first steps for patients who are transitioning from female to male; this may also be the only surgical procedure undergone by many trans men. Patients who opt for bilateral mas…
What surgery should I get to lower my hairline, and feminize my forehead and make it smaller?
Neograft hair restoration
Oct 1, 2020
In many transgender patients there can be hair loss due to taking exogenous hormones. Some trans women may want to change their hairline to make it appear more feminine. There are many different treatments that work for hair restoration, for example oral or topical medications and injections of PRP or steroids. Recovery from hair transplant is about 5 days, though most patients feel fine after 2 days. This procedure is great for male pattern baldness, thinning hair, and trans-masculine…
When I have breast augmentation consultation, how long will it take for insurance to approve it? (Phot
30-60 days depending on insurance
Oct 1, 2020
Often, with the efforts of both patient and physician, we can get an individual covered. Sometimes, we can even pave the way to get a contract between your insurance company and our office so that future patients who have the same insurance can benefit as well. With PPO insurance plans that cover transgender surgery, we are usually able to get a portion (if not all) of the surgery covered.
Sometimes, we can work with the HR department of larger companies to help make your surgery possible….
I am male. I would like to do a breast enlargement operation. How much will it cost?
$12,000 – $20,000/Covered by some insurance
Oct 1, 2020
Many trans women choose to get breast augmentation as part of their transition. Generally breast tissue develops with the hormonal transition, but sometimes patients want larger breasts and want to augment the shape as well. Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that can be used to enhance the size, shape, or fullness of the breasts. This procedure has a number of important benefits for the trans woman. It can provide a greater sense of congruence between her inner and outer selves,…

What can I do to get rid of folds and lines?
Facial Fillers
Sep 22, 2020
Face fillers are a wonderful non invasive way of restoring volume and eliminating lines and wrinkles. As we age, we typically lose facial volume and injectable fillers can help restore the volume and augment areas of the face that we want to accentuate, like the jaw or the lips. Facial fillers are most commonly used in the lips, cheeks, lower eyelids and nasolabial folds (otherwise known as laugh lines and smile lines found between the nose and corners of the mouth). Fillers can also be used…
How can I get rid of my 11’s without Botox?
Dysport
Sep 22, 2020
Dysport is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age. This area can often be treated alone, however, depending on your wrinkle pattern, we may recommend treatment of other areas for an even improvement. You can imagine that if you have general wrinkles over the face and then smooth just one area, this may lead to an unnatural look. Younger people with a genetic…
Is there any way I can have FTM chest surgery without a therapist referral?
FTM surgery without a therapist letter
Feb 15, 2019
Hi. Thanks for your question. The issue is without a letter insurance WILL NOT pay for it. There are many folks in your situation – where they may not suffer or feel that they have gender dysphoria in the truest sense and so having therapy feels not quite right. If you are willing to pay for the surgery as “cosmetic” I am quite sure there are practitioners who would be willing to do the surgery. Hope this helps.

What happens once a nipple graft has failed (FTM transgender)?
FTM surgery with double incision and possible failed free nipple grafts
Jan 3, 2019
HI. First of all, hang in there and it will definitely heal eventually and likely look just fine. But here is my controversial opinion. In my opinion, free nipple grafts never really take. The areola takes just fine, but the thicker bigger nipple really never takes fully. The surgeon did not do anything wrong this is merely the nature of skin grafts. Skin grafts take and heal by a process called imbibition, whereby they develop a blood supply and their…
Is a Prophylactic Mastectomy with FtM Masculinization possible?
Prophylactic Mastectomy for FTM Top Surgery
Jan 3, 2019
Hi! Many AFAB have a strong family history of breast cancer and 8% of AFAB (assigned female at birth) will develop breast cancer. For someone with a strong family history I always recommend a true mastectomy where you are removing all the breast tissue, you can maintain your nipple and areola, but I would probably recommend a different incision than peri-areaolar, and instead use an inframammary incision to enable the most aesthetically pleasing result while…

SKIN TIGHT AFTER FTM DOUBLE INCISION MASTECTOMY
Dec 23, 2018
Hi there! Its unusual to have such a tight result that you cant stand up straight after three weeks. Sometimes things feel excessively tight due to swelling. I recommend massage and light stretching (ask your surgeon) and when my patients have not regained normal range of motion by 3 weeks post op I have them go to a Physical Therapist for stretching and range of motion exercises!
What should I do about my seroma/hematoma after it’s already been drained twice?
SEROMA OR HEMATOMA
Dec 23, 2018
HI!
A seroma and hematoma are different things – both are fluid and create swelling but generally a seroma occurs after the drains are out, and a hematoma usually only occurs shortly after the surgery and can be painful, and is accompanied with bruising. With that said, this sounds like a seroma, and if it looks swollen and full, go back to your doctor and get it drained again! Hope this helps!
Can I get a internal bra and a donut lift with small reduction to get this look?
Breast Lift
Dec 23, 2018
Hi! You are interested in a donut lift, also know as a peri-areolar lift. I think to get the result you want, you need more skin removed which would either mean a scar also up and down or vertical, and possibly a horizontal component. Many people are concerned about scars, but I think there are many great scar treatments, and its worth the scars to achieve the long lasting result you desire!
Will my lumpy areola flatten out?
Breast Reduction healing
Dec 23, 2018
Hi! it is very normal post surgery to have some areas that look lumpy or bumpy. Often there is swelling in the tissues and there are also sutures that dissolve and they can sometimes be a little bumpy. Usually this takes a while to go away, and should improve by 6 weeks and then continue to improve until 3 months. I tell my patients not to worry about the appearance of their scars for weeks – only to look for healing. The important aspect as this time is to heal…
