Lipo on thighs 8 weeks post-op — should I be worried about how bad they look?
To see the final result it can be months
Dec 26, 2017
Looking at your pictures, some of what I see may be that your pictures/self-inspection may be in different lighting which will affect the way things/pictures look. That said, your final result will not be visible for a few months; I have seen a “dent” or “bump” go away between months 4 and 6 post op. Follow up with your surgeon, and evaluate your results with him/her. Sometimes a touch-up in the office can help, but sometimes cutting out some extra skin may be needed.
My belly and back are very swollen and full of fluids. It’s day 9 post liposuction. Is that normal?
Compression is Key
Dec 26, 2017
I would recommend continued compression, but also seeing equally or more important, that you see your surgeon soon. Sometimes fluid under the skin can be best treated by draining the fluid. This can often be done with a needle through the skin in patients who need it, and it is important this be evaluated prior to beginning any massage.
How much would would lipo, tummy tuck and Brazilian butt lift run me?
Trust and peace of mind are hard to put a price on 🙂
Dec 26, 2017
I would expect you will be able to find more than one local plastic surgeon who is qualified to perform these cases, and which who you feel some sort of trust/connection. I would think $10,000 would be quite a deal on this sort of surgery, and up towards $20,000 would be over priced. Around $15,000 would probably be expected. You can probably “shop around” for price, but I would recommend most of all you shop around for (as in go to more than one consult with) a…
How Much Does Liposuction Cost? Do you get discounts for the lipo price if you get lipo on multiple
In the upper midwest…
Dec 26, 2017
Liposuction in North Dakota (my current location) is about the same price as in the Utah where I used to practice. Most surgeons will charge a fee of a few thousand ($3000-$5000 — about $4000 in both places I practice/d) for the first area, but then adding another area will likely be a fraction of that cost (under $1000 in both placed I practice/d).
Love handles feel more squishy. No pain after liposuction. Still there
Results take months to see the final result
Dec 26, 2017
You have several good questions and normal concerns. The love handles were likely suctioned given the fact you report that your love handles had a lot of bruising. The lumpy/pain/soft/hard/swollen areas can all be normal, but yet very different even though it was the same surgery (liposuction) treating each area. Continue to follow up with you PS as sometimes there can be a reason that something feels different, like a little bit of fluid under the skin, and this may…
Is there a medical liposuction when you have fatty painful knots that always occur on the buttocks u
Lipoma removal is best done with direct excision
Dec 26, 2017
It sounds like you had a lipoma removed recently, and the site is “not red on the surface but very painful to touch and it’s hard just under the surface but not lumpy or visible.” It seems as though there may just be firmness from healing and deep stitches dissolving, but there could be something else going on, so I would recommend seeing the Plastic Surgeon who removed the lipoma to make sure things are healing well.
As for lipomas in general, if that is the cause of the “painful…
My compression garment broke, will this impact my results?
Something is better than nothing
Dec 26, 2017
Every patient has a different body and has a unique experience for that reason. Given this, I would recommend getting in touch with your surgeon as soon as the clinic opens to see what s/he can do. My staff has been able to mail order garments for patients who live 2-3 hours away and this may be an option. Given you are 11 days out, a lot of healing has already happened, and as long as you avoid clothes that “dig in” on the sides, like a drawstring on scrub pants for…
Is there a way to correct liposuction procedure without having to undergo general anesthesia? 5 days
Skin and fat
Dec 26, 2017
5 days out from lipo is too early to see your result. It truly will take months. 700cc is still a fair bit though and you will be able to see a difference. That said, it looks like you have a fair bit of loose skin. Removing this in the future, and possibly tightening your internal abdominal muscle layer, may be the best option for improving things in the future rather than any sort of “correcting” your liposuction. Sometimes taking out 2-3 inches of skin in the clinic can be an option…
How Much Does the Alloderm Grafts Cost for Reconstruction?
You are getting a glimpse into why healthcare in the USA is so messed up…
Oct 26, 2017
Short answer — $41,580 is probably the amount the hospital bills insurance for a 16x20cm piece of dermal matrix, but your insurance pays them substantially less than that. You should not be billed for it, but rather your insurance.
Long answer — The hospital pays about $10,000 for these large sheets, but possibly less depending on what priced they have negotiated. I know more about the smaller sheets and facilities I worked at payed $3000 vs $5000 for the same thing. The…
Prophylactic Mastectomy 3 Months Ago – Why Do I Continue to Drain? Can It Be an Alloderm Reaction?
Surgery to remove every thing is probably best
Oct 26, 2017
It sounds like you have had some unusual things happen. This is unfortunate and odd things can happen to almost any patient regardless of the surgery and surgeon. If your skin “turned purple and opened” 8 weeks after your initial surgery, but not the incision, this seems unusual and I wonder if there was pressure on the skin from a fold of the expander or if you have other risk factors such as (even a history of) tobacco use or diabetes which may make your tissue more fragile. It…
How Long Does It Take for Alloderm to Completely Integrate into the Body?
Early Alloderm adherence is within a week but true integration will be months
Oct 26, 2017
Alloderm and tissue start to heal together immediately and are reasonably “stuck” after about a week. I generally see drain fluid output that is minimal about a week after using Alloderm which indicates this to be the case, along with the fact that I remove drains in most patients at about that point with only rare seroma problems. For breast cancer, I exchange expanders for implants routinely at 3 months after the expanders are put in and the Alloderm is well…
Recurring Seroma After Hernia Repair with Alloderm
I would recommend draining again
Oct 26, 2017
Seromas are caused by multiple factors. Drainage, compression, and limiting activity are essential to early treatment. In your case, it may even be worth having an external drain placed to ensure continuous drainage and to hopefully allow it to close up before the seroma gets a lining of scar; perhaps you can talk to your surgeon about this option since he has a reasonable concern that it will just fill back up.
If you are not able to get this seroma to resolve soon, the lining may…
Alloderm Complications
Seromas tend to be the most common complication that I see
Oct 26, 2017
Simply stated, complications from Alloderm are seroma and “red breast syndrome” where the skin may stay more pink than expected for quite some time. These two may be related. A seroma doesn’t cause an infection, but a seroma can become infected. Issues such as seromas are becoming less common with modifications to Alloderm, such as perforating it (making holes in it so fluid can’t collect into a little puddle in an area of the reconstruction). If you are more worried about specific…
I Have a Hernia Due to DIEP Surgery. Is Alloderm Safe for Hernia Repair?
Alloderm is safe but not the best choice
Oct 26, 2017
Hang in there. I hope you are happy with your DIEP reconstruction. Over time, patients with DIEP reconstruction are happier than they were initially, in part probably because of bumps in the road such as your hernia.
Alloderm was used for hernia repairs routinely about 15 years ago but the fact that is tends to stretch makes it not as good as other products, both tissue-derived and mesh, which can be effectively used to repair hernias. I recommend you talk with…
Radiation after alloderm?
The alloderm won’t be damaged like skin or muscle
Oct 26, 2017
Radiation causes tightening and scarring of the skin and muscle but the alloderm is not affected the same way. The conclusion from an article in the research journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from February 2014 summarizes it well: “Acellular dermal matrix appears to limit the elastosis and chronic inflammation seen in irradiated implant reconstructions and is potentially beneficial in these patients.”
