Answer Snippet
7 days post op, is it common to have upper back pain after bilateral breast implant removal.
Back pain after breast surgery
Jul 27, 2018
I agree with the other poster. The back pain is likely positional due to you sleeping in a different position after surgery. Anti-inflammatories work well for this but you need to ask your surgeon before starting any of those medications as they can cause some bleeding.
Concerned about dried blood and healing
Post op after explant
Jul 27, 2018
If you have any questions or concerns about your recover or the suture line try to contact your plastic surgeons office if you can.
From the photos you have posted it looks to healing well. That amount of dried blood is very common this soon after surgery. The fact that it is dry is a good sign that there isn't any active bleeding.
In regards to the steri strips every plastic surgeon has their own post operative protocol so I would check with yours to see how he would want you to...
Will puckering on left breast at the bottom of the anchor incision resolve? Or will I likely need a r
Puckering of the skin after surgery
Jul 27, 2018
I agree with the other surgeons. The swelling to your breasts and the scars will change considerably in the next several weeks to months. Your surgeon will likely recommend scar massage once the scars have healed enough. That should help to smooth out any residual puckering. If you have any questions or concerns you should try to see your surgeon for guidance
Can you use insurance for a breast reduction?
Breast reduction and insurance
Apr 27, 2018
A lot of insurance providers will cover breast reductions. There are certain criteria including frequent rashes under the breasts, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, shoulder strap grooving...etc.
It is worth checking out with a plastic surgeon in your area that accepts your insurance to see if you are a candidate. Most surgeons would recommend you be 6 months removed from breast feeding prior to an operation as your breast size will continue to change.
Saline over or under the muscle?
Implants for smaller chests
Apr 27, 2018
Generally if you don't have a lot of natural breast tissue and know you want saline implants most surgeons would recommend placing them under the muscle. The muscle will give an extra layer of tissue between the implant and the skin and masks any rippling that can occur in saline implants.
Would it be better to have an eyelid lift before or after weight loss?
Eyelid surgery and weight loss
Apr 27, 2018
For surgery in general it is always best to get to your goal weight first. That way you maximize the results of the surgery and you are overall healthier and able to recover faster with less complications.
In regards to eyelid surgeries generally people don't gain and loose a lot of weight in this region of their face so generally speaking it can be done at any time.
2 weeks post tummy tuck and I’m so tired. Is that normal?
Recovery after a tummy tuck
Apr 27, 2018
It is completely normal to be tired for several weeks after a large operation like a tummy tuck. I tell my patients to expect to take frequent naps during the day for the first two weeks. Your body is using a lot of resources to heal your incision and you should give it the time and energy it needs to do that.
If you have any questions or concerns you should speak to your surgeon and they can better tell you what activities you should restrict.
3 weeks post-op. Does this look normal for post bilateral extended arm lift?
Results after an arm lift
Apr 27, 2018
Congrats on your recent surgery. Looks like you are healing well. At 3 weeks you likely still have a lot of swelling to the arms. That can take several months to really go down. I wouldn't feel shy about expressing your questions and your concerns to your surgeon. At this point in your healing process it's our job to reassure you and to give you an idea of how things will heal. Even for surgeons we want you to heal as fast as possible. Sometimes we both have to realize the body is going...
15 months post breast reduction and lift, do these scars look normal?
Scars after a breast reduction
Apr 27, 2018
Certainly looks like there was a lot more retained areola skin on the right breast which could happen if your original areola was large. Sometimes that can be revised secondarily after everything has healed by serial excision of that tissue to remove a little more. The rest of the scars look as expected. It is common for scars in these high tension areas to widen slightly. Looks like you may have had some small open areas at the T zone during the healing process.
Probably best to...

Breast asymmetries after augmentation
Apr 27, 2018
At a week after the operation your breasts still have a lot of swelling to the tissues. It's common for one side to have a little more than the other. However, I always recommend if you have any questions or concerns to make an appointment with your surgeon. They can perform a physical exam to determine if there is anything concerning.
My incision on my back still has fluid, red, and swelling after BBL 6 weeks ago. What to do?
Pain and swelling after procedure
Apr 25, 2018
Probably best to make an appointment with your surgeon for an in person evaluation to make sure there isn't any fluid or potential infection going on. That would typically be red, hot, painful areas that might have some drainage. Your surgeon would be able to better tell after evaluating you to see if there is anything else to do (draining the fluid/antibiotics) in addition to the massage they recommended.
I want implants, but do I need a lift?
Breast augmentation versus lift
Apr 25, 2018
It would likely be best to wait a little longer before considering a breast procedure. Having had a child 3 months ago the breast tissue is still likely different than it will be in another 3 months. I would wait another 3 months and then seek out a plastic surgeon for an in person exam.
Based on you photos at this time you might be a candidate for an implant and a lift at the same time (depending on your goals for the surgery and desired look). The nipple is sitting a little low in...

Post op discomfort after breast augmentation
Apr 25, 2018
Some of the symptoms you are reporting can be part of the normal post operative healing process. The light headed feeling could be related to pain medication you may be taking. With any post operative symptoms or questions it is best to talk to you surgeon directly so they can better assess you to determine if everything is progressing as it should
How to check if everything is good with tummy tuck 1 year post op?
Tummy tuck check up
Apr 12, 2018
I would also recommend going back to your original surgeon. They will be able to check on everything and make sure you are doing well. Your surgeon will likely be able to determine if there is any fluid collections to worry about with a physical exam. If they have any concerns they would recommend an ultrasound which will help them identify any fluid collections.
Hope this helps!
Compression garment bulge tummy tuck - 1 week post-op.
Contour after tummy tuck
Dec 4, 2017
I agree with the other MDs. It's important for your plastic surgeon to evaluate you and to make sure you don't develop a fluid collection (seroma). You would have the sensation of fluid in that area. If he or she doesn't feel there is fluid then keep following their post op instructions. Likely they will have you continue the compression.
