What do you do if an incision opens? I am 14 days out from surgery.
your surgeon will take care of you.

Hello! Thank you for the question. Your surgeon will take care of you. If your surgeon is unavailable, you should place a saline soaked gauze in the wound and have someone drive you to the ER. All the best,Jason Mussman MD

Thank you for the question! I’m glad to hear you have recovered after your stroke. I would expect most insurance companies to cover this indication after a letter from your physician. Of course preoperative clearances will be prudent to optimize, prognosticate, and have an educated risk discussion. All the best,Jason Mussman MD

9 year old saline implant flipped sideways. What damage can this cause? Chestwall very painful now.
Jan 8, 2015
Thank you for your question! In the process of restoring your implant to its position, you may have bruised or injured the capsule. This can be painful but often heals on its own without any further intervention. If this implant continues to cause you trouble, you may consider a form stable implant. The benefit is that the implant does not migrate like the previous generation of implants. I recommend you see a board certified surgeon in your area that can…

I want to go from 350cc to 650 saline, had surgery 11 months ago.
Jan 8, 2015
Thank you for the question! It is not unusual to want a larger size after your implants settle. A larger implant is defintiely possible, but should it be done? Larger implants in the 650 and above range put additional stress on your breast tissue and back musculature. If you are commited to this size, I would explore the option of a form stable implant so that rippling would be less visible as your breast tissue thins under the stress of a larger implant. I…

Jan 6, 2015
Thank you for the question! Rippling in the lower outer pole of the breast is common with saline implants on thin individuals. I might suggest a switch to a form stable implant if this issue is bothering you. All the best-Dr. Mussman

Thank you for the question! Size and shape are somewhat relative to your preoperative state and the converstation about your goals and aspirations that you had with your surgeon before the procedure. From your photos, I do think you would benefit from a little more volume to add to the projection and create a more aesthetic breast mound. Please talk with your surgeon about your concerns. A solution is definitely possible but may require another procedure. All…

Thank you for the question! Your breasts implants look nicely centered under the areola. If they drop any more, upward pointing nipples may be the result. I recommend continuing massage and frequent follow ups with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck.- Dr. Mussman

Will saline over the muscle implant look good? 3.4 on 1 breast 5 cm on the other.
Sep 19, 2014
Thank you for the question! With the breast thicknesses you mentioned, saline implants would be a fine choice in the short term. However, the pressure from the implant and gravity can lead to tissue thinning over time. This can lead to visible rippling and greater implant palpability a decade from now. This is important to consider since breast augmentation should be thought of as a lifelong commitment. Talk things over with your surgeon to find the best option…

How soon after breast augmentation can I take a self defense class?
Sep 19, 2014
Thank you for the question! I recommend 4 weeks of no vigorous activity. Breast augmentation recovery is key to long term lasting results. A bleed during the recovery period from a kick or a punch can lead to long term capsular contracture cycle that is hard to interrupt once it starts. Best of luck.–Dr. Mussman

Thank you for the question! The muscles at the base of the neck are numerous and compact. The target muscle that is causing the migraines is very small. I have often wondered if the correct muscle is being injected in the neck or if diffusion has allowed the Botox to affect more than the offending muscle. During migraine decompression surgery, I am able to directly visualize the muscle and dissect the triggering nerve away from it before encasing it in soft fat….

Are there any cosmetic benefits for Botox injections for Migraines?
Sep 19, 2014
Thank you for the question! There are definitely cosmetic benefits to injections of Botox for migraines since many of the same muscles are targeted. There are also negative side effects such as neck weekness that may result. I recommend seeking treatment from a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Neurologist for Botox for migraine. Also, you may want to consider the possibility of migraine surgery if your migraines are not fully controlled with injections or…

Am I a candidate for plastic surgery? Does my illness or the treatment for it preclude me from cosmetic surgery?
Sep 19, 2014
Thank you for the question! Your illness definitely does not preclude you from seeking surgical correction. You may need the surgery more than once if still on the medication. I recommend seeking consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area. –Dr. Mussman

It’s been a little over six weeks since my breast reduction. Is it normal for the breast to be hot and red?
Sep 15, 2014
Thank you for the question. I have come across this once before. In this time frame, this usually does not represent an infection and will resolve with time. I attribute it to inflammation from self limited fat necrosis of the breasts. I recommend follow up with your plastic surgeon for his/her advice. Frequent follow ups to make sure that an infection has not developed is necessary. I would avoid polling the local family practitioners and ER physicians…
