What size implant is suggested for a full D cup?
Breast implant sizing
Nov 25, 2018
Thank you for your question and sharing your goal pictures. There are several different ways to help determine your implant size, though the ultimate size decision is usually made in the operating room with a temporary implant sizer to make sure the selected size works well for you.

There are different types of 3D imaging systems available to help you see what you might look like with different size implants- I like to use Crisalix, which actually allows you to upload your photos from…

Will my red breast reduction scars need revision?
Scarring after breast reduction
Nov 12, 2018
Thank you for your question and pictures.
At this point, the red color is very normal, the scars under the breast often take as long as a year before the color really fades. It looks like you’re healing well in the area where you had wound breakdown, with nice healthy tissue underneath. Often, these areas heal in surprisingly well over time, contracting down so they look fairly similar to the scars around them. The color should fade around the same time, and I would g…

Rash from Embrace Scar Therapy
Oct 28, 2018
I think Embrace is a great product and recommend it to all my patients after breast reductions, but I’ve had several patients have similar reactions from the strips. I’d recommend leaving it off and have the area open to air for several days until the irritation resolves. You can then try again, but make sure to clean the area well with something like alcohol wipes to make sure the skin is completely clean before putting on new strips.

Hope it goes well!

Options for reconstruction after expander removal
Oct 28, 2018
Thank you for your question. To match your other side, the best option would be to use your own tissue, such as a TRAM or DIEP flap taken from your abdomen. If your current breast reconstruction surgeon does not perform these procedures, he/she should be able to refer you to someone who does. If this is not an option for you or something that does not sound like a good choice, there are ways of using the skin left from your mastectomy to create at least enough projection of…
How does a breast lift procedure work if you already have implants?
Breast lift with implants
Oct 26, 2018
Depending on your goals, breast lift with lifting your skin and breast tissue can be performed while keeping your prior implants in place. This will improve the sagging while still keeping the fullness from your implants, which is a combination that can dramatically improve the appearance of your breasts. Evaluation and discussion with a board-certified plastic surgeon can help determine the best plan for you.

Good luck with the next steps!

Will I achieve a large breast size via a BA with constricted breasts?
Breast size goals
Oct 25, 2018
Thank you for sharing your photos. The main factor determining the size implants you’ll be able to have would be your breast width, which can be measured in person during consultation by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Although your breasts are somewhat constricted, it looks like you’ll have good coverage of the implants and would do well with the size goals you’ve mentioned and shown in the example photos.

Good luck with the next steps!

1 month post breast augmentation. Is the skin around the incision supposed to be hard?
Early scarring after breast augmentation
Aug 30, 2018
Thank you for your question. Early on in the healing process, it’s normal for scars to feel firm, and then they will soften over time. I’d recommend seeing your plastic surgeon to discuss his/her recommendation for scar therapy and possible scar massage.

Good luck with the rest of your recovery!

Raised scars 4 months post boob job? Is this normal at this point of the healing process?
Scars after breast augmentation
Aug 19, 2018
Thank you for your question and sharing your photo. While a little raised and thick, your scars look like they’re healing fairly well at this point in the process and will likely continue to flatten over the coming year. I’d recommend starting silicone gel sheeting for two months with a product like Embrace scar therapy to help flatten your scars, then consider scar massage for another two months afterwards depending on how they’re looking.

Good luck with the rest of…

Breast reconstruction after mastectomy using just a fat transfer no implants. Can this be done?
Breast reconstruction with fat grafting
Nov 26, 2017
Thank you for your question.

Reconstructing an entire breast out of fat can be done, but it is usually best for women with small (A/small B cup) breasts who are willing to undergo multiple procedures spread out over many months to get the fat to take and get to the size they’re hoping for.

Using an implant with fat grafting will likely give you a much better match to your DIEP flap side and you should be able to get a nice and natural-looking result that can hopefully be done w…

How much reduction would I need for a breast lift?
Breast lift
Nov 12, 2017
Thank you for your question.

Depending on your skin and breast tissue, it may be possible to have a significant lift of your breasts without removing much volume. A consultation and comprehensive examination with a board-certified plastic surgeon will allow you to assess the options and come up with a safe plan to help you achieve your goals.

Good luck with the next steps!

Can you take fat from lower breast to add to face? Planning on a breast reduction.
Fat transfer to face
Nov 8, 2017
Thank you for your question.
It sounds like your surgeon may be planning to do some liposuction along the lower outside of your breasts towards your sides, which is a good location to take fat from, as it will improve the overall look of your breasts after your reduction.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery.

Do nipples alter in appearance (shape, size) sometimes after a breast lift permenantly?
Nipple swelling after breast lift
Oct 23, 2017
Thank you for sharing your photos. It’s very common to have a change in the nipple appearance due to swelling lasting weeks or even months after a breast lift. In cases where the nipples do not need to be made smaller, the appearance should return to the way they looked before surgery, or at least very close. I would recommend speaking to your surgeon to discuss recommendations for reducing swelling while you’re healing.

Good luck with your recovery.

When, after breast reduction and lift surgery, can I safely raise my arms above my head and travel?
Breast reduction recovery
Oct 21, 2017
By two weeks after surgery, many plastic surgeons would feel comfortable letting patients travel for short flights and lift their arms overhead, but every surgeon’s protocol is different. It’s best to follow your surgeon’s advice, as he or she knows the exact details of your surgery.

Good luck with your recovery.

What do you recommend for my scars?
Scar management
Oct 18, 2017
Thanks for sharing your photos- looks like you’re healing well so far!

For my patients I use Embrace Scar Therapy (silicone gel sheets) for 2 months followed by 2 months of Biocorneum (silicone gel cream).

Good luck with your recovery.

T-junction in breast reduction with the anchor scar. How to prevent a separation in there?
Healing at T junction of breast reduction
Oct 17, 2017
The best way to prevent healing problems is to take tension off the area and avoid strain there. I would recommend wearing a soft, supportive non-underwire bra at all times during the day. You could also ask your surgeon when you might be ready to start using tape or other scar management systems that take tension off the area as it’s healing. You should also make sure the area is dry and could put a gauze in your breast fold if it feels like it’s getting moist.
