Reduction mammoplasty is an operation performed to reduce the size of the breast. Unlike other types of operations for breast correction, reduction mammoplasty is not only an operation of aesthetic medicine, but also a medical procedure.

Giantomastia, manifested in an excessively large amount of mammary glands, is a rather serious medical problem.

The fact is that large breasts can have a negative effect on the back, up to the deformation of the spine.

There are hormonal gigantomastia and hypertrophy of the mammary glands, resulting from the accumulation of fatty deposits.

Hormonal gigantomastia usually begins in teenagers and linked to endocrine disorders, due to which the mammary glands increase in size indefinitely. Reduction mammoplasty, when treating hormonal gigantomastia, should be carried out together with the treatment of endocrine pathology, otherwise the operation will have to be repeated.

Hypertrophy of the mammary glands, associated with an excess of fatty deposits, develops after childbirth. To eliminate it, it is sufficient to perform a reduction mammoplasty operation.

The essence of the operation

Surgical intervention aimed at reducing the size of the mammary glands in teenagers, involves the excision of excess tissue of the breast and fat deposits. The incisions performed during surgery can be vertical and “anchor”.

Vertical incisions are preferable, since they have a smaller length. However, this type of incision is possible only with minor hypertrophy of the mammary glands (up to 800 grams of excised tissues).

If during the operation it is necessary to get rid of a significant volume of breast tissue, an incision is made in the form of an anchor, going from the area under the nipple to the pectoral zone.

Since the operation of reduction mammoplasty in teenagers is associated with the removal of some part of the breast, breast-feeding after surgery is impossible. In view of this, this surgical intervention is not recommended for young women planning a pregnancy. The exception is the severe forms of hormonal giantomastia.
